A Florida woman used the identity of her 88-year-old woman with Alzheimer's disease to get a credit card to pay for more than $7,000 in cosmetic surgery, authorities said.

Tiffany Acuna, 31, was arrested for allegedly using the identity of her 88-year-old Alzheimer's patient to apply for a credit card for cosmetic procedures.

Investigators said a $7,000 transaction was made on Nov. 1, 2022, for multiple procedures by Acuna, also known as Tiffany Kent, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said. Acuna's employer, America In-Home Care, suspended her April 4, the day the allegations were made. She denied applying for a credit card in the woman's name and denied receiving cosmetic surgery, authorities said.

Alzheimer patients tend to spend less time in both REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, in which most dreaming occurs, and non-REM (NREM) sleep. But they show the greatest reduction in so-called slow-wave sleep (SWS)—a stage of non-dreaming deep sleep, characterized by slow 'delta' brain waves (0.1 to 3.5 Hz)—when day-time memories are consolidated.
