The river is expected to spill its banks later today, threatening to flood several communities and potentially turning the Monterey Peninsula into an island, officials said.
“To the Monterey Peninsula residents and to the Monterey Peninsula businesses, you need to be talking to your employees, you need to be preparing for what could be the ‘Monterey Peninsula Island,' as we call it,” Nieto said.Nieto urged residents and businesses in the affected areas to take necessary precautions to protect life and property as soon as possible.
