The Flash has a new ongoing series coming soon, and with one sentence it has become one of the most exciting books of 2023. This fall, writer Si Spurrier will team with artist Mike Deodato to present readers with a bold new look at the Scarlet Speedster as well as the Speed Force. Anticipation for the book is running high, and now Spurrier has set the bar even higher, comparing his forthcoming run to some of the best runs in comic history.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Spurrier shared a promotional image, drawn by Deodato, to his X account. The image shows the Flash standing with arms outstretched with text that asks, “what is the strange attractor?” Spurrier then takes it a step further, saying that if fans enjoyed The Immortal Hulk or Alan Moore’s Saga of the Swamp Thing, then they “will dig on our curious kool aid.

Big Things Are Coming for The Flash Spurrier and Deodato clearly have huge plans for the Flash, and Spurrier has peppered cryptic hints on various social media accounts. In a post to X, Spurrier showed panels of Deodato’s art, showcasing speedster and Flash ally Max Mercury; the image reflects on the various identities Mercury has held over the years. Another teaser from Spurrier seemingly shows a dissatisfied Linda West and still another shows Mister Terrific, Wally’s boss.

While Spurrier and Deodato have not revealed exact plot details, early reports suggest a dark, horror-oriented tone to their run. The teases Spurrier has revealed also seem to indicate the Speed Force will factor heavily into this run; while this can be said of nearly every take on the character, Spurrier and Deodato’s looks to take this a step further, giving fans new insights into this mysterious part of the DC Universe.

Will the New Flash Book Also Be a Horror-Themed Series? By comparing the forthcoming run on the Flash to classics such as Immortal Hulk or Swamp Thing, Spurrier has set the bar high. These two works are acknowledged masterpieces, and have only grown in estimation since their conclusions. Immortal Hulk and Swamp Thing achieved their statuses by rooting their takes on the horror aspects baked into those characters.
