A flash flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Tuesday at 4:17 p.m. in effect until 7:15 p.m. for Berks County.
"At 4:17 p.m., Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly," comments the weather service. "Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other drainage and low-lying areas.
During heavy rain, flooding is possible, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Never drive through water on the road, even if it does not appear to be deep. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away most cars, according to the weather service.
