was dealing with a concussion during Calgary’s first-round series against the Dallas Stars, GM Brad Treliving said Monday.
It is unclear what play specifically caused Tkachuk’s concussion. The 22-year-old was injured during Game 2 against the Stars after being hit by both Jamie Benn and Jamie Oleksiak mid-way through the third period. He appeared unbalanced on his skates after the hit and immediately went to the Flames locker room.
“Matthew was dealing with a concussion in the Dallas series,” Treliving said. “He was concussed and so we were unsure of his timetable, he was going through the concussion protocol from the time he was injured.” In 69 regular-season appearances with Calgary this year, Tkachuk scored 23 times and added 38 assists en route to a team-leading 61 points. He had one goal and one assist in six post-season appearances.
The Flames were eliminated by the Stars in six games, losing their best-of-seven first-round series 4-2.
