Because of the length of the suspension, Andersson’s appeal — filed Sunday afternoon through the NHLPA — will be heard by league commissioner Gary Bettman. Andersson, a fixture on Calgary’s top defence pairing and a regular on both the power-play and penalty-kill, started serving his suspension Sunday as the Flames wrapped a road trip in Detroit. A four-game ban would cost him nearly US$95,000 in forfeited salary.
