Blake Coleman, oh-so-proud of his roots in Plano, is the first Texas-trained player to score 100 career goals in the NHL.
“Anytime, for whatever reason, you hit those big round numbers, it’s more just that you reflect on how you got there,” Coleman said as he neared triple digits. “For me, it reminds me where I came from — just a Texas kid that didn’t really have a shot. So to be able to score 100 goals, it would be special.
Coleman had been stuck on 99 for the Flames’ past eight contests. He plunked the post in a Family Day matinee against the Philadelphia Flyers, then clanked the iron again in Arizona. On another golden opportunity, an odd-man rush in Colorado, he sailed his shot high of an open target. “My in-laws were coming up and I told them about a week-and-a-half ago, ‘You never know, you might be in the stands for the 100“There’s definitely a sense of pride,” said Coleman, now up to 13 tallies in this current campaign. “More so, I think about everyone that kind of helped get me to where I am. It’s that old cliché saying, but it took a village. It’s a cool achievement for a little kid from Texas.
