Singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen’s lesser-known works continue to inspire authors and musicians
With April known as National Poetry Month, there is no better way to celebrate than to honour the legacy of one of Canada’s most prolific poets: Leonard Cohen.
“He’s fearless about experimenting with different language and wasn’t afraid to be challenging and people really responded to that,” says Lesley Fletcher, the executive director of the League of Canadian Poets. Fletcher says his work was initially “difficult” for people to embrace and citesCohen’s written work wasn’t enough to sustain an artistic career and so he turned to music, which earned him wider recognition.
