The project is part of the broader redevelopment of the waterfront attraction and includes a bus pickup area and bicycle parking. The government expects the garage to generate up to $60 million in annual revenue, though critics remain skeptical about the design and overall redevelopment plans. The parking requirement stems from the province's deal with European company Therme for a spa and waterpark, and the structure is intended to address public concerns by relocating parking away from a proposed science centre.
