5 great U.S. cities to bicycle in this summer:
cities to bicycle in according to a company called Copenhagenize Design Company, who “ranked the largest cities in the world for their bikeability.”
This I find puzzling as one who has bicycled thousands of adult miles, most of them in New York City, but also over and through other cities in the West and South as well as five months in Pune, India in my 20s. Most of my best-ever life experiences came on a bicycle at all hours of the day and night in NYC which, as bikers know, is infested with broken glass, petty thieves, hordes of people and busted-up streets.
Do accident statistics determine which city is “best?” Some bicyclists go down more than others no matter which city they’re in. Are there places where you can get a flat fixed or a chain replaced if you can’t do it yourself? Is your city a bit gritty, with character and characters, flavor and a thriving arts scene? For me, bicycling’s more fun in boho districts than through Jane and John Q. Blandville.
If you have a favorite city to bike in, leave a comment telling us which city and why, and we’ll include it in our next list.SAN FRANCISCO, CA - APRIL 2: A bicyclist rides along the many bike paths and trails at Golden Gate National Park on April 2, 2014, in San Francisco, California.
