But there’s no indication that Trudeau is pitching anything this time around. His office isn’t issuing any press statements to accompany the visits and he’s not making any speeches. None of the venues he’s visited have featured either a lectern or a teleprompter — both of which are ubiquitous tools on any politically motivated visit.

But that theory doesn’t make a tremendous amount of sense. Canada’s last two general elections yielded minority governments for Trudeau, and there’s little reason to believe a fall election would be any different. Poilievre has spent months as the clear Conservative frontrunner, and yet Trudeau is still experiencingAdded to that, the risk of backlash from dropping the writ only 12 months after the last general election could be catastrophic.
: A chance for Trudeau to show the Liberal flag in some communities that don’t normally see him. A slightly warmer version of the Northern tours that Stephen Harper adopted as a summer tradition during his nine years as prime minister.
