Illuminating data from B.C. shows that even when a suspect commits a violent offence while on bail, they\u0027re almost always given bail again
Crown counsel “must seek the detention of a repeat violent offender charged with an offence against the person or an offence involving a weapon, unless they are satisfied the risk to public safety can be reduced to an acceptable level by bail conditions,” reads the directive.
What’s more, the report pours cold water on the very notion that public safety can be maintained via “bail conditions” – since suspects can apparently just violate them at will with little consequence.
