Snow fell across Vancouver Island Saturday, and more is forecast to fall through the weekend, as temperatures plummet.

The Sproat Lake resident told CHEK News she was determined to get to work, despite the substantial first of the season snowfall that blanketed the region overnight.It began Friday night, and its snowfall stretched right into Saturday at higher elevations including Sutton Pass. So road crews worked around the clock trying to keep up, and preparing for the possibility of more snow Saturday night, Sunday and into Monday.
So community warming centres and shelters are opening their doors through the cold snap. Alberni’s Bread of Life is making room for 34 beds and mats, to get people out of the cold, while hot drinks and three meals a day are being cooked up to keep people warm.
