THUNDER BAY — City officials are asking people to avoid the Pool 6 area as the first cruise ship of the season is set to arrive.
The Viking Octanis is due to arrive in Thunder Bay on Thursday around 8 p.m., slightly delayed from its previous estimated arrival. City officials have asked vehicles and pedestrians to stay away from the terminal area, adding that only authorized vehicles are permitted to drive to the terminal area. “There is currently no pedestrian access from Prince Arthur’s Landing to Pool 6, and ongoing construction traffic, plus bus, delivery and service trucks required for the ship will mean a congested roadway, so walking on the road is also not advised,” said city engineering and operations director Kayla Dixon. “A temporary walkway is under construction. There will be many opportunities later this season to see the various ships up close.
City officials said Hillcrest Park and the lookout at the Terry Fox Monument and Visitor Centre both offer views of the ship while in harbour.
