The XBB 1.5 subvariant is sweeping through the U.S. and had been detected in B.C., which means it’s no surprise it’s slipped into Alberta, said Dr. Craig Jenne, an infectious disease and immunology professor at the University of Calgary. In the U.S. last week, Kraken was found to be responsible for 40 per cent of COVID-19 cases — in the country’s northeast, that number was 75 per cent.
