Numerous photos and videos posted on social media shortly after 9 a.m. show flames larger consuming a building on the site.
Firefighters are tackling a large structural fire at the Somass mill site in Port Alberni that began on Sunday morning.
Firefighters from the Beaver Creek, Cherry Creek and Sproat Lake departments have also been called in, Port Alberni Fire said in a statement posted to social media. Firefighters were seen spraying water on a nearby larger building as part of fire suppression efforts.
