A total of fourteen of the new smaller fire trucks will join the fleet of Ottawa Fire Services by the end of 2022.

Ottawa's fire department is on track to impose new fines against building owners whose repeated false alarms are drawing resources from actual emergencies and putting lives at risk.Ottawa Fire Services predicts a reduction in nuisance calls of 10-20 per cent within three years if city council approves the new fines.

Chief Paul Hutt told members of the emergency and protective services committee on Thursday that this isn't just a nuisance or a financial issue, it's a matter of public safety. Ottawa Fire Services Chief Paul Hutt says the current volume of nuisance calls is tying up firefighters who should be responding to actual emergencies. The committee passed the new bylaw, with many councillors expressing concern about the high number of false calls. Combined with malicious alarm pulls, false calls make up more than one-third of all fire calls.
