A house was destroyed and an apartment building was heavily damaged in a fire in downtown St. John's. Firefighters responded to a report of black smoke, but arrived to find heavy fire and smoke. They worked to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring structures and eventually focused on the burning apartment building. The upper floor of the building was heavily damaged, but all occupants escaped unharmed.

Eventually fire and black smoke was also seen coming from the roof and an aerial truck was deployed to fight the fire from above.
