Finnish president ‘optimistic’ his country and neighbouring Sweden will overcome Turkish opposition
Finland’s parliament has overwhelmingly approved a government proposal to join Nato, as the country’s president said he was sure it and neighbouring Sweden would overcome Turkish opposition to their historic membership bids., Finnish MPs voted by 188 votes to eight to back the government’s proposal to do likewise, paving the way for simultaneous applications to be submitted within hours.
