Team Canada opens the FIFA Women\u0027s World Cup on July 20 in Melbourne.

The Canadians made soccer history with their gold medal victory at the Tokyo Olympics two years ago. They have never medalled at a World Cup, but this is the eighth straight tournament they have qualified for. Canada’s best result was a fourth-place finish in 2003.Article content

The team will be captained by Christine Sinclair, who has been a staple of the senior national team for more than 20 years. The 40-year-old B.C. native is appearing in her sixth World Cup. She has also played at four Olympics and two Pan American Games. Sinclair is the world’s all-time leading goalscorer , with 190 in 323 appearances with the senior team.
