According to preliminary police information, the man was speeding southbound in the 100 block of SW Loop 410 Access Rd near the Loop 410 and Texas 151 interchange shortly after 1 a.m. when he hit a curb and then the base of a traffic light. The Mercedes then caught fire, and both the driver and his female passenger needed to be pulled out of the car by emergency personnel, the police said.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver died later at a local hospital. Police have not identified the driver or the passenger.
