The Toronto Maple Leafs’ season came to an earlier-than-expected end with a seventh-game overtime loss to the Boston Bruins in Round 1 of the NHL playoffs, but they deserved a better fate.
No team in the league can lose their two best forwards and prevail, but Toronto almost pulled it out. It’s not like the Maple Leafs played poorly and were ousted in four or five games. They gave it 100 per cent, and that’s all one can ask. With all hands on deck, I still believe Toronto is better than Boston or Florida, so let’s not be foolish and suggest wholesale changes.
It was like the non-call three years ago when Jacob Trouba elbowed Sidney Crosby in a blatant foul with Pittsburgh up 2-1 in games and leading 3-1 prior to the Trouba elbow.
