Toronto Blue Jays hurting their chance with too many blunders on the bases
P.E.I. Gaudet’s Auto Body Islanders shortstop Logan MacDougall intently follows the action in a New Brunswick Senior Baseball League game at Memorial Field in Charlottetown earlier this season. The Islanders entertain the winner of last night’s Moncton vs Saint John game, Sept. 17 at Memorial Field in Game 1 of a best-of-seven series. The start time is TBA and will, no doubt, depend on this weekend’s weather.
Baseball is a simple game, complicated by people, most of whom are brainwashed by the Toronto media. The Blue Jays needed to start their season in spring training with three simple rules: 1) do not take chances on the bases when your team is trailing – just be patient and accumulate base runners; 2) no attempts at stealing third base and 3) with a runner only at second base, no attempts at moving to third base with a ground ball hit to the left side of the diamond.
It’s been going on now for two years with no end in sight and in front of a manager – Schneider – who has no idea how to remedy the situation. How would these two guys look in that Toronto lineup, especially with the pitching staff? With each passing series, Schneider, Atkins and Shapiro are looking more and more like Larry, Curley and Moe.Dave Matte, 59, who starred in goal when the Charlottetown Islanders won the 1991 Allan Cup, passed away in Ontario last weekend.
