Walz, a veteran of the Army National Guard who represented southern Minnesota in the U.S. House from 2007 to 2019, is a former high school social studies teacher.“Gov. Walz is known as the ‘ Education Governor’ because he has been an unwavering champion for public school students and educators, and an ally for working families and unions,” she said, adding that the Democratic governor “has a track record of getting things done to make people’s lives better.
Walz and his wife, Gwen Walz, both began teaching at Mankato West High School in southern Minnesota in the 1990s. Walz, who’s currently serving his second term as governor, coached the school’s football team and helped the squad win its first state championship in 1999.
