Federal funding helps Indigenous-owned business capitalize on opportunities within Northern Ontario’s mining industry
Sudbury MP Viviane Lapointe announced a $1 million investment by the Government of Canada Friday for the purchase of 10 heavy trucks for Z’gamok Construction LP, a First Nation owned company based in Massey.
“This investment of $1 million will help Z’gamok Construction LP to scale up, create jobs, and pave the way for the long-term prosperity of both the company and the Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation. Businesses are creating the jobs that ensure communities thrive. That’s how we will ensure a Northern Ontario economy that works for everyone," Hajdu said in the release.
Victoria Mine is under construction and the new haulage trucks will provide Z’gamok with the capacity to qualify for major haulage contracts. The new trucks will also help position Z’gamok to provide additional services during all phases of Victoria Mine project, while supporting its expanding role at Vale’s Totten mine, said the release.
