The announcement came hours after Trudeau announced that the Toronto-based organization had pulled out of the controversial agreement to administer the Canada Student Service Grant.
“I have considered your request and am of the view that it satisfies the requirements set out in … the Act. I am therefore commencing an examination.”In his letter, Dion says he’ll be probing if Trudeau contravened the Conflict of Interest Act in any of three ways: “We will of course collaborate with the Commissioner and answer any questions he may have,” commented Ann-Clara Vaillancourt, a spokesperson for the prime minister.
Up until 2017, Trudeau regularly attended or hosted “WE Day”, the organization’s annual stadium-sized rally for Canadian youth.
