Dr. Anthony Fauci, the public face of the federal COVID-19 response under the Trump and Biden administrations, will be joining the faculty of Georgetown University on July 1.
"Dr. Fauci has embodied the Jesuit value of being in service to others throughout his career, and we are grateful to have his expertise, strong leadership, and commitment to guiding the next generation of leaders to meet the pressing issues of our time," said Georgetown President John DeGioia.
Fauci started working for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in 1968 and served as the agency director for 38 years. Fauci officially retired from government service in December, as House Republicans prepared investigations into the origins of COVID-19. Fauci has been awarded the university's highest rank of distinguished university professor and will join the Division of Infectious Diseases at Georgetown's School of Medicine. He also has an appointment at the School of Public Policy.
"I could do more experiments in the lab and have my lab going, but given what I’ve been through, I think what I have to offer is experience and inspiration to the younger generation of students," said Fauci.
