Jesse Bennett was the subject of an arrest warrant for the abduction, which police said was in contravention of a custody order, after his daughter was reported missing on Jan. 24.Bennett was in family court in Victoria on Jan. 20, where he was ordered to return his daughter to her mother that same day as part of a joint custody agreement.
Investigators tried talking to Bennett’s family in the ensuing months to encourage him to turn himself in, but after no progress was made a criminal charge was approved. When the warrant was issued in March, police said he “could be anywhere in Canada at this point.” “As this matter is now before the courts, no further information will be shared,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alex Bérubé in a statement on Tuesday. “The RCMP would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance.”
