The BC Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash on Highway 19 on central Vancouver Island that occurred on January 3rd. A 61-year-old man was struck by a southbound pickup truck while crossing the road. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. RCMP are asking anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the collision to come forward.

A southbound pickup truck struck him as he was crossing. Police say the driver stopped immediately and is cooperating with police. Mounties say multiple bystanders also stopped and tried to help the pedestrian and spoke with police. “BC Highway Patrol has brought in collision reconstruction and mechanical experts to go over every detail,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with“This is a dangerous time of year for pedestrians,” said McLaughlin.
