The fact that Iran, an outside player, neither Arab nor Sunni Muslim, has tried to be more Palestinian and Arab nationalist than the Arab Palestinians themselves has made things worse. Whereas once the Palestinian struggle was one of the national rights of the Arab people of British Palestine versus the historical Jewish claim to Israel, Iran’s Ayatollahs introduced the element of religion into the conflict.
Not till the Arabs accept Israel as a Jewish State will the first step be taken for a Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital. Until then, the Palestinians will continue to suffer a stateless identity that they should never have had to suffer.
