The speedfest began Oct. 10 with a 21-year-old man nabbed for doing 82 kilometres per hour in a 40 km/h zone on Beach Drive
There have been some fast times in Oak Bay in recent days, with police listing five cases of excessive speeding on this week’s police blotter. Two excessive speeders — drivers who break the speed limit by more than 40 km/h — were caught the next day, one at Henderson and Lansdowne roads and the other back at Beach and Newport.
Police got another speeder at Beach and Newport the day after that, and clocked the fastest of the hard-driving quintet at 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 14 at Beach and King George Terrace travelling 100 km/h in a 40 km/h zone. Oak Bay Police Chief Mark Fisher said other problem areas for speeding in the municipality include Foul Bay Road and Cedar Hill Cross Road near the University of Victoria.Focusing on specific locations can lead to more excessive speeders being caught and their vehicles being impounded for seven days, Fisher said.
All five drivers stopped for speeding in recent days ended up with their vehicles taken away and a $368 fine.
