Farmers—a key Trump demographic—will get $16 billion in aid amid trade fallout
: The aid comes after Trump increased tariffs from 10% to 25% on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods after trade talks with China fell apart earlier this month. China, in turn, responded with its own wave of tariffs.
This is the second aid package for farmers hit by the trade war. The Trump administration spent $12 billion in aid last year after the original tariffs were levied. While other industries, particularly tech and automobile companies, are being hit hard by tariffs, American farmers who sell their crops in China have been disproportionately affected.
