The TTC said in a statement that revenue from this fare increase, in addition to the city’s subsidy to the TTC of nearly $960 million, will “help us ensure the system is reliable, safe and accessible for all Torontonians.” TTC ridership has not fully rebounded since the start of the pandemic, and there have been concerns about safety on the transit system following a series of violent attacks and murders.
