Local art-lovers can appreciate the cinematic photography of global artist Kriss Munsya at Deer Lake Gallery until March 23.
Munsya's work considers cultural identity in the face of oppression and colonization, according to the gallery, and his art has a "fantastical and comfortably absurd tone." "I try to approach topics that shaped the person and the artist I am today, colonialism, racism, identity, but also love and hope," Munsya states on his website.
Munsya, born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and raised in Belgium, is now based in Vancouver.You can meet Munsya at a gallery reception Thursday, Feb. 29.Cost: Free to attend, donations welcome
