Family grieves after one-time star student-athlete dies in London jail.
At their last visit 10 days ago, Winston Brightman’s son, Sean Tourand-Brightman, looked healthy and happy, his father said.
“He couldn’t wait to get out and hug his daughter. He wouldn’t be taking a drug, trying to take a drug or trying to kill himself,” Brightman said. Sean, 33, a father of three girls, died March 31. The official statement from Ontario’s corrections ministry said he was found unresponsive in his cell and declared dead at hospital.
Apparently his son and cellmate were the only ones locked in their cells at that time in the protective custody unit, he said. ”The coroner told me if he had snorted or smoked a drug, he’d be gone instantly, if it is fentanyl. If it is ingested, it will take an hour or two.”
