Deborah Crombie mines her U.K. connections in the popular ‘Kincaid and James’ detective series.

Author Deborah Crombie has built a successful three-decade career by crafting protagonists who feel very much like real people. Her latest novel, "A Killing of Innocents," is the 19th entry in her popular “Kincaid and James” Scotland Yard detective series.This year marks McKinney resident Deborah Crombie’s 30th as a published writer, and she’s celebrating appropriately with a new novel., due out Feb.

In these three decades of publication, there’s been change both at Scotland Yard and on the domestic front. The two detectives fell in love early on, moved in together and have been wed for a couple of years. Each brought a son to the marriage, and they’re now fostering a 4-year-old girl in hopes of adopting.

Called to the scene of the crime, the detectives are stunned to realize the victim is the young woman they just saw leaving the pub. Duncan “tried to wrap his mind round the idea that this young woman had lain dying while they were sipping their pints.”
