U.S. factory orders jumped in March

Factory orders jumped in March after two straight declines, the Commerce Department said Thursday. Orders rose a seasonally adjusted 1.9% after a revised 0.3% drop in February, the latest data show. The increase was ahead of the 1.7% gain forecast by economists. In March, transportation equipment jumped by 7%, while new orders for nondurable goods increased 1.1%. Excluding transportation, orders rose 0.8%.
