Ezekiel Elliott says time in free agency left him ‘anxious’ and ‘ready to ball’ with Patriots

Ezekiel Elliott isn't used to being without a team to play for, and this summer was a stressful one for him.

"I’m definitely fired up just to be out here to play football," Elliott said."Not being signed in the offseason and leading into camp — I’ve been anxious. I’m ready get out there and ball."The No. 4 overall pick by Dallas in 2016, Elliott ran for 68 touchdowns and more than 8,000 yards over seven seasons. He led the NFL in rushing yards in 2016, when he was the runner-up for the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award, and again in 2018.

He eventually settled on a one-year deal with the Patriots, that a source The Associated Press is worth $4 million with incentives that could boost his compensation to $6 million."I don’t think anything could put more pressure on me than the expectations I have for myself," Elliott said."It’s not really to go out there and prove anything to anyone. But just to go out there and show what type of player I am.

But Elliott’s extended time as a free agent may be an indication he isn’t being viewed as a lead backfield option at this point in his career, and he isn’t expected supplant Patriots projected starter Rhamondre Stevenson.
