Upcoming events: Cineplex Community Day on Saturday; Victoria Model Railway Show on Sunday; In Sight Festival Saturday and Sunday
See a free movie and hit the arcade for charity Film fans can visit three Cineplex theatres on Saturday to enjoy events tied to Cineplex Community Day.
The event, now in its 12th year, is a fundraiser for BGC Canada, formerly Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada. Popcorn, soft drinks and select candy are available from the concessions at each location for $3, with one dollar from every concession order donated to the national nonprofit.
Operating model railroads and displays are the focus of the event, which runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. A variety of set-ups will be on display and also for sale, including full brass models. Model railroading — considered by many to be “the world’s greatest hobby” — remains popular in Victoria, so hundreds are expected throughout the day.
A celebration of music, arts and culture at In Sight Festival Colwood’s third annual In Sight Festival runs through the weekend at Meadow Park in Royal Bay, with a free full program of music, visual arts and cultural performances on tap.
