Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth has come under fire for not using Alert Ready to warn people about last year\u0027s heat dome or extreme floods.
of B.C.’s failure to use the Alert Ready system to warn the public about extreme heat during last summer’s heat dome and the flooding due to the atmospheric river in November that forced thousands from their homes.
The alert, Farnworth said, will not replace traditional methods of alerting people to an emergency such as door knocking or on-the-ground efforts by police, firefighters or first responders. Alert Ready delivers critical and potentially life-saving alerts through television, radio and wireless devices. It has been available in B.C. since 2016, but has never been used.The alerts will not include warnings about extreme heat but Farnworth said the government is working on that with the Ministry of Health.
