Boisclair will not be arrested, but will be given a court date
Former Parti Québécois leader André Boisclair walked into a Montreal police operations centre Friday morning to be fingerprinted after being charged Thursday with two counts of sexual assault.
The 54-year-old Boisclair, wearing glasses and a face mask, walked slowly into the eastern operations centre in St-Léonard preceded by a man believed to be his lawyer and surrounded by photographers and camera crews. In a charge sheet filed at the Montreal courthouse Thursday, Boisclair is alleged to have on Jan. 8, 2014, sexually assaulted a person, identified only by their initials, with the participation of a third person whose name does not appear on the document.
The former PQ cabinet minister is also charged with using a weapon to commit a sexual assault — a charge that carries a maximum 14-year sentence upon conviction. The warrant accusing Boisclair does not require that he be arrested. Instead, he will be provided with a date on which he is expected to appear in court.
