At least 20 people were killed, and police now say they are investigating the attack as a possible hate crime

Photo: Joel Angel Juarez/AFP/Getty Images At least 20 people were killed and another 40 injured when a lone gunman opened fire at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas on Saturday morning. As of early Saturday evening, city and state officials have only confirmed a limited amount of information, but below is everything we know so far from them and other reports.
Few additional details about the attack have been confirmed as of Saturday evening, but the ATF and FBI have joined El Paso police in the investigation. Gruesome footage recorded and shared on social media by witnesses showed several victims lying bloodied and motionless on the ground in the parking lot and just inside the store.
The Gunman and Possible Hate-Crime Motive The gunman was eventually identified as 21-year-old Patrick Crusius, a resident of the Dallas suburb of Allen, Texas. It’s also not yet clear how the suspect was apprehended without exchanging fire with police, or how he traveled to El Paso, which is more than nine hours away from where Crusius reportedly lived.
