After three seasons on the Saskatoon Blades blue line, Ben Saunderson is taking over the team's captaincy as the team begins its 2024-25 WHL season.

“He actually texted me a day before just joking around saying, ‘Hey, congrats,'” Saunderson said. “I guess someone had talked to him about it and I hadn’t officially heard anything, so I kind of just laughed it off.” For news impacting Canada and around the world, sign up for breaking news alerts delivered directly to you when they happen.
“He was the guy that was on my radar,” Blades head coach Dan DaSilva said. “First and foremost, from when I got named head coach to when I started to think about who would be the captain of this team moving forward. He was the first guy that came to mind.”Four alternate captains were also announced by the Blades on Tuesday, with Molendyk, Brandon Lisowsky, Tyler Parr and Rowan Calvert joining Saunderson in the team’s leadership group.
