Formerly known as the National Housing Co-Investment Fund , the Affordable Housing Fund provides capital for new construction or renovations of affordable housing.
Over the past week, the Government of Canada has been making a series of funding announcements, allocating large amounts of money to countless affordable housing projects across the country through the Affordable Housing Fund. Then, with Budget 2024 in April, the federal government committed an additional $1B, which includes $976M over five years starting in 2024-2025 and $24M in future years. The latter, the government said, would be used to "launch a new Rapid Housing stream under the Affordable Housing Fund to build deeply affordable housing, supportive housing, and shelters for our most vulnerable."
