As more people geared up their bicycles to commute around Victoria, bike theft slowed to a more than 10-year low, according to the city.
Last year’s data shows 377 bikes were reported stolen locally — the lowest number since 2011, and a 28 per cent decrease from 2022, the City of Victoria says.
Victoria Mayor Marianne Alto says the city is “thrilled” this work is “making a difference.” It ultimately contributes “to a more vibrant downtown,” she says, as people feel safe leaving their bikes while shopping, dining or doing business.
