PHOENIX — The Dodgers still aren’t ready to call Evan Phillips their closer. But they’re getting closer.

“I did,” Roberts said of using Phillips as a conventional closer. “I just felt that last night we didn’t have a whole lot behind him available. So I felt that ninth inning made sense.” Phillips acknowledged that he probably wasn’t used that way Thursday – “I would argue that Phil’s three outs in the eighth were more impactful than mine .” It’s a mentality that Phillips said he has thoroughly bought into.
