Evacuees fleeing Jasper and Jasper National Park are being directed west to B.C. on Highway 16.
Thousands of people who were ordered to leave Jasper overnight are being told to travel through British Columbia.
“B.C. will do everything we can to provide safe refuge for evacuees from Jasper and are working as quickly as possible to coordinate routes and arrange host communities on our side of the border,” says Bowinn Ma, Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness. “Small groups of escorted vehicles will be directed east on Highway 16,” says a spokesperson with the Municipality of Jasper.
On Tuesday morning, the Municipality of Jasper stated that the Village of Valemount has limited services and cannot accommodate more evacuees at the community hall.
