The U.S. wants a return to supersonic air travel. Brussels isn’t interested.
The EU reaction echoed European heavyweight Airbus' lack of enthusiasm about supersonic travel. "Supersonic was not my priority," said Airbus' outgoing CEO Tom Enders at , according to Reuters. Guillaume Faury, the next executive set to lead the company, promptly added that he was on the same line. Its archrival Boeing, on the other hand, last year a hypersonic airplane concept that could fly passengers across the Atlantic in about two hours.

The ICAO's environmental committee only agreed on"an exploratory study" on the technology over the next three years.
