Salas is almost certainly one of the youngest players to ever appear in an MLB spring training game.
His brother is a Minnesota Twins prospect, and his father, uncle and grandfather all played in the minor leagues.
"He's an unbelievable specimen of an athlete," Padres starting catcher Austin Nola told The Athletic after Salas' March 11 debut. "Good kid, too. … He's going to be one of those, like, generational players."The Padres believe Salas could reach the majors before his 20th birthday , which would make him the first teenage catcher in MLB since Iván Rodriguez in 1991.
