Two people were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds after a shootout in Esquimalt Sunday night, and both Royal Jubilee and Victoria General ERs were temporarily placed on lockdown.
Victoria police responded to reports of multiple shots being fired outside a residence in the 1000-block of Lyall Street just before 10:30 p.m. One person is being treated for life-threatening injuries, said police. The other has non-life-threatening injuries.At the request of police, Island Health said the Royal Jubilee and Victoria General hospital emergency rooms were placed on lockdowns from 11:30 p.m. Sunday to 2 a.m. on Monday as extra security was brought in.
Patients were not turned away while the increased security measures were in place, said Island Health.VicPD’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
